Abstract: A field survey was conducted during 2017-18 to study the leaf and fruit nutrients newlinenorms using DRIS concept for Byadgi chilli crop in three districts of north Karnataka. A total newlineof 175 locations were selected and index leaves and red fruit samples were collected at peak newlineflowering and peak harvesting stages respectively. These samples were analyzed for nutrients newlineto establish DRIS norms. The whole population of study area was divided into low and high newlineyielding categories taking fruit yield of 8.50 q ha-1 as cut off level. For colour value and newlineoleoresin contents 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades were formed based on Spices Board norms. In high newlineyielding locations, the yield varied from 8.63 to 20.09 q ha-1 newline, while in low yielding locations it newlinevaried from 2.06 to 8.49 q ha-1. Totally 28 nutrients ratios were selected as diagnostic norms newlinethat have direct relationship with yield and quality parameters. These expressions had high newlinevariance and low co-efficient of variation that were having greater diagnostic precision. Few newlineselected ratios were N/P (6.55), N/K (0.81), N/Ca (1.91), N/S (5.85) and N/Zn (0.10), for newlineyield and for colour value, the ratios were N/P (5.0), (N/K (0.76), S/N (0.11), Zn/N (12.03), newlineP/K (0.15), Ca/P (4.47), S/P (0.52), P/Fe (0.0046) and Zn/P (58.13). For oleoresin, the ratios newlinewere N/P (5.23), N/K (0.78), S/N (0.10), Zn/N (11.48), K/P (6.67), P/S (2.00) and Zn/P newline(57.66). Finally, the order of nutrient requirements for yield was KgtSgtMggtP. For colour newlinevalue, the requirement of nutrients in second and third grade fruits were MggtPgtN and CagtK newlinerespectively. For second and third grade oleoresin fruits, the orders were CagtMggtPgtFe and newlineFegtMggtCagtK respectively. Lastly a field experiment was also conducted in a red soil to newlinevalidate the DRIS norms using foliar spray of speciality fertilizers. Results showed that, two newlinefoliar sprays of either 19:19:19 or Ca(NO3)2 at one per cent and K2SO4 at same concentration newlineincreased the fruit yield and quality parameters respectively. newline
