dc.description.abstract | Marriage is considered as a sacrament in India, and it is a sacred union between a man and a woman to achieve social position. Marriage is not intended to provide sexual pleasure; rather, it establishes a long-term connection for social and spiritual reasons. The spiritual reason for marriage is to procreate and care for the child. According to Swami Sivananda, Marriage is sacred. It is not to be treated lightly. It is not to be considered in a vulgar sense. Marriage is an alliance for something more than mere physical enjoyment, for something more than even the all-important purpose of the propagation of the race (though, to a limited extent, this is also a purpose of marriage). The offspring of the husband and the wife are also to be spiritual beings because they are other souls coming into this earth-plane to work out their evolution. 1 Sociologists define marriage as a social institution in which a man and a woman form a socially sanctioned relationship as husband and wife. This is a system that necessitates modification between the two partners in accordance with their respective role expectations. It satisfies bodily, moral, and social needs. newline | |
