Abstract: | Water being the one of the important elements of panchabhuta (Viz: Earth, Air, Water, Fire and atmosphere) gives rise to all creations, in the world. Our human culture and civilizations revolve around river system. Ancient civilizations such as Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa existed Close to the side of Indus Valley. The other several rivers have a similar heritage. The importance of Water is understood from ancient India and the same is reflected in Vedas and epics and also in the narratives from Arthashastra. In India, the people treat water as most holy and sacred and therefore they use it in all festivals, pujas and other religious functions. To them the real holiness and sanctity is found in water. River Gangaand#8223;s water seems to be more sacred for the people for which they preserve it in the home to use during the death of the family members. Our mother nature has provided humanity with all the resources necessary to live happily. In the name of civilization, industrialization and urbanization, man has misused the natural resources of earth, water and air. Getting pure water and air is just a dream right now. Vande Mataramand#8223; our national song narrates the beauty of the pristine environment of our country. Now, one wonders whether that original unspoilt spotless beauty of the past remains in fact. newline |
