dc.description.abstractThe Water Resource Potential of India, from the natural runoff in the rivers is newlineabout 1999.20 billion cubic meters which contributes to a little of 4% of the total river newlinewater of the world (CWC, 2020). Out of 160 million ha of cultivated land in India, 39 newlinemillion ha of land is irrigated using ground water and 22 million ha by irrigated canals newlinewhereas nearly 2/3rd of cultivation is still depending on monsoon (Dhawan, 2017). The newlineincreased demand for water for various purposes has resulted in water stress in several newlinerivers of India, which inturn have several ecological implications and may also affect newlinefood security. In Andhra Pradesh out of the 40 identified rivers and drains except for newlineGodavari the water resources of the other rivers are almost used up. Thus management newlineof river basins is a pre-requisite from an environmental standpoint as these ecosystems newlineprovide multitude of services that are beneficial to mankind. newline
