Conventional energy sources have many drawbacks like higher fossil fuel prices, harmful environmental damage, shortage of sources and increasing pollution, so there is acute need to use renewable sources of energy. As the wind energy has arbitrary and unpredictable nature, it is important that few kind of control strategy has to be introduced to extract maximum power from wind. This thesis focuses on the development of 3-L NPC multilevel converter interfaced Permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based wind energy conversion system (WECS). It focuses on designing aspects of the different components of the WECS like the basic model of two drive train, wind turbine, adaptive fuzzy logic newlinecontrol integrated with PI (AFLC+PI) type maximum power point tracking (MPPT)algorithm for achieving the maximum energy extraction from wind and NPC 3-L newlinemultilevel converter system using MATLAB/Simulink. Major object is to extract the maximum energy from the wind which confirms a highest efficiency of developed system. Here, the wind speed changes and load switching conditions are performed using the newlinewind turbine emulator, which consist of 4-quadrant controlled chopper dc drive, whose control is implemented using dSPACE DS1104 real time board. It obtains the wind speed values and, by using the turbine characteristics and dc motor speed, newlinecalculates the torque command of the wind turbine. In this way, it is able to reproduce the steady and dynamic behavior of a real wind turbine to the energy conversion system. Contd.... newline
