Abstract: Cloud is a promising architecture for diversified areas of computing and communication paradigm for ease, efficient, on the spot solution for all computing needs of everyone. Most of the people are using cloud directly or indirectly to avail the resources like software, platforms and infrastructure according to their need. With the increase in need, the size of the data center which maintains the data have to be expanded and distributed geographically for achieving efficacy in providing the services. Data centers are becoming the main backbone of and centralized repository for all cloud-accessible services in an on-demand cloud computing environment. To make the efficient use of available resources, the concept of Virtual Data Center (VDC) plays a vital role in achieving high revenue for the infrastructure providers. In particular, virtual data centers (VDCs) facilitate the virtualization of all data center resources such as computing, memory, storage, and networking equipment as a single unit. It is necessary to use the data center efficiently to improve its profitability. In effect to the high resource utilization, the power usage also increases, which in turn demands efficient usage of energy. It is also inevitable to reduce the carbon footprint in the future for green environment. The crucial part of the VDC is in how efficiently the incoming requests are handled. VDC request embedding is the one where we can achieve our goals like maximum resource utilization and revenue maximization. An exhaustive survey was conducted to study the different VDC request embedding techniques and compared their functionalities. The survey was also observed at how these techniques fared in meeting the Service Level Agreements (SLA) by cloud provider for different Quality of Service (QoS) parameters. newline
