Abstract: Thrombus or fibrin clot formation in the blood vessels are newlineassociated with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) such as stroke, high blood newlinepressure, peripheral vascular disease, ischemic heart disease and acute newlinemyocardial infarction are typically attributed due to the excessive newlineaccumulation of fibrin molecules in the injured site. Various thrombolytic newlinedrugs are available that breakdown the clots that block blood vessels by newlineactivating the fibrinolytic system through activation of blood plasminogen to newlineplasmin. Thrombus releasing drugs such as streptokinase (SK), tissue newlineplasminogen activators (t-PA), urokinase (UK) are commercially available. newlineThrombolytic drugs however end with serious side effects, high cost newlineproduction and sometimes results high antigenicity. Natural agents that could newlineenhance the efficacy of fibrin specificity or by stimulating plasminogen in the newlineblood plasma are under investigation. The present study focused on a desired newlineagent with high specificity to fibrin molecule. newlineChapter 1 deals with the introductive part of cardiovascular newlinediseases (CVDs) and their types and complications. This chapter illustrate the newlinevarious problems associated with CVDs, their pathways and some therapeutic newlineaspects. The steps in which the blood factors respond to form a clot and newlinedestruction of clot after time were well explained along with the thrombolytic newlineagents as drug in the clinical practices today. A list of such drugs in the form newlineof enzymes, chemicals and genetically synthesised were revealed for their newlinesignificance and non-significance roles were detailed. The organisms and newlinecertain fermented food items that could produce fibrinolytic agents were newlineshown. In addition, various methods of effective drug administration and drug newlinedelivery system were described. Indeed, the emergency need of novel newlinecompounds from microbial sources was also described. newline
