Abstract: | ABSTRACT newline newlineMega Tsunamis triggered during 2004 Indonesia earthquake and 2011 Japan earthquake newlinereminded the international scientific community to recognize and model the tsunami generation, newlinepropagation and coastal inundation processes and also revealed the importance of constructing newlineearthquake and tsunami resistant structures in coastal regions. Tsunamis are large impulsively newlinegenerated ocean waves that are displayed vertically above the uplifted bottom sea floor with a dip newlineslip fault motion. Tsunamis have great erosional potential stripping beaches of sand and capable of newlineinundating with turbulent flow velocity causing damage to many coastal structures. newline newlineAnother important phenomenon that happens during tsunami impact is soil structure newlineinteraction which is basically affected by the mechanism of energy exchanged between the soil newlineand the structure in the analysis of structures subjected to tsunami forces, it is usually assumed newlinethat the structure is fixed at the base to simplify the mathematical problem. But in reality, as the newlinetsunami waves travel through different soil media and the foundation of the structure rests on soil, newlinethe response of the structure depends upon he properties of the structure as well as the soil. newlineTsunami wave velocity, tsunami flow depth, inundation depth, tsunami run-up and bathymetry are newlineimportant parameters which influence the response. newline newlineIn the present study, the coastal region of Krishna and Godavari Delta of the state Andhra newlinePradesh, India has been chosen as the study area which exhibit typical topographical low level areas newlinewith respect to mean sea level. The response of coastal structures with different configurations and newlinedifferent soil conditions behaves differently. The analyses are carried out for tsunami wave heights, run newlineup distances on land and topographical features. A comparative study on response parameters like newlinebending moments. Shear forces, base shears, displacements on these structures under different soil newlineconditions is also made. Influence of scourin |
