Abstract: The erosion of soil from the watershed is induced by precipitation and flows as sediment by mixing with surface runoff, is one of the natural processes which needs its quantification, necessary for environmental and regional planning. The importance of possible incoming sediment load to artificial reservoir in its life time has a bearing to allocate the dead storage volume at the time of its planning stage to avoid any overtopping of the dam due to maximum probable flood. Apart from this, the assessment of runoff and sediment yield from a watershed helps the development activities of the watershed. In literature there are many empirical formulae are available to estimate sediment yield with respective runoff. However, it is highly essential to establish region specific model for its computation. Therefore, there is need for further research on developing runoff and sediment yield model for the watershed of Odisha. newline
