Abstract: | The aim of the present study was used to assess the effectiveness of Nursing care bundle on Prevention of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia among mechanically ventilated patients admitted in selected Hospitals. Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) refers to bacterial pneumonia developed in patients who have been mechanically ventilated for a duration of more than 48 hours. It ranges from 6 to 52% and can reach 76% in some specific settings. Hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) is the pneumonia after 48 h or more after admission, which did not appear to be incubating at the time of admission. The presence of HAP increases hospital stay by an average of 7 9 days per patient also imposes an extra financial burden to the hospital. The risk of VAP is highest early in the course of hospital stay, and is estimated to be 3%/day during the first 5 days of ventilation, 2%/day during days 5 10 of ventilation and 1%/day after this Lack of a gold standard for diagnosis is the major culprit of poor outcome of VAP. Objectives:and#61472;To assess the incidence of ventilator associated pneumonia among mechanically ventilated patients in experimental and control group before and after nursing care bundle. The conceptual framework for the present study was based on Virginia Henderson s Need theory which guides the investigator to provide Nursing care bundle on prevention of ventilator associated pneumonia. Conclusion: After implementation of Nursing care bundle found to be effective in terms of Prevention of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia. It was also revealed that no significant association between post test scores of prevention of ventilator associated pneumonia with their demographic variables. Type of intubation and mode of ventilation were associated with physical comfort among mechanically ventilated patients. Nursing Care Bundle was effective in Prevention of ventilator associated pneumonia and improves outcomes such as ICUs length of stay, duration of ventilator support and pulmonary function. |
