Abstract: | Internet usage has phenomenal growth rate due to growth in computer technology and mobile devices. The mobile and computer devices communicate through Internet Protocol. The Internet Protocol (IP) is a network-layer protocol that includes address information, control information and enables routing of packets. In Internet Technologies, the information is broken up into packets and every packet identifies the path over the computer network from source to destination. The networks can be public like the internet, or private like a corporate network. The node in the network has an IP address. newlineThe RFC 791 IP is the main network layer protocol in the IP suite. IP is the basic protocol in networking field. The RFC 791 IP does the effective network layer service for connecting computers and establishes a computer network. IP utilizes a packet-switched architecture, where data are divided into smaller pieces called as quotpacketsquot. Every packet has source and destination address. This dividing of data into smaller packets is performed by the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). Transmission of IP packets is performed through data link layer protocol, such as Ethernet. Ethernet is used for the physical transmission of IP packets to the next node in the network path. newlineThe IP includes a set of rules for addressing and routing of data packets. So the data packets can transmit across the network and reach the correct destination. The information about the IP is attached to every packet, and this information helps routers to transmit packets to the destination node. Every IP packet has two important components such as header and data. Every device connecting to the Internet is assigned with IP address, and packets are directed to the IP address attached to the device. newline |
