The rapidly growing demand for transportation fuels has posed severe threats to energy security. The replacement of fossil fuels with oil derived from waste plastics provide a solution to the problem mentioned above. The fuel sources should be economical and viable for large-scale production to meet global energy demands. To obtain higher oil yield, from waste plastics, the reaction parameters like the catalyst, reaction temperature and types of plastics were optimized by Taguchi s optimization. The properties of Used Low-Density Polyethylene (ULDP) oil are similar to regular diesel, and it is proved under several physiochemical characterizations. newlineEvaluating the characteristics of the diesel engine fuelled with ULDP oil using different methodologies such as fuel additive, nano additive and engine modification like injection timing retardation, injection pressure and EGR rate variations are analyzed and presented. The optimization and prediction of engine operating parameters like IT, IP, and EGR rate were found by using Response Surface Methodology to finalize the suitable operating parameters. newlineIn this investigation, the thermo-catalytic pyrolysis process is adopted to extract the oil from waste plastics. Taguchi method of optimization provides the L9 orthogonal array for different reaction parameters. The optimized levels of the pyrolysis process are carried out with nine experiments, and results were evaluated. The optimized reaction parameters were found to be Silica- Alumina as catalyst; the reaction temperature as 500°C and 60 minutes as reaction time. The pyrolytic oil yield is about 95.4%, a gas yield of 3.4%, and a char yield of 1.2%. newline
