The performance of a DI diesel engine is correlated with efficient newlineatomization, dispersion, and penetration of the fuel-air mix. A good fuel newlineinjection system influences the spray characteristics to achieve faster newlinecombustion and to achieve better control over emissions. To analyze the newlinespray characteristics experimentally, an expensive rig is required. The advent newlineof high-performance computing power and computational fluid dynamics newline(CFD) software helps in numerically simulating it for better understanding. newlineThere are many numerical and experimental studies such as: in-cylinder flow newlinestructure of injection systems, air-fuel mixing, swirl characteristics, injection newlinevelocity, Sauter Mean Diameter (SMD), dispersion, and penetration. Among newlinethose parameters, swirl characteristics are the most important as it affects the newlinefuel-air mixing. This can be generated either by inlet valve shrouding or newlinepiston bowl geometry. In the present study, a self-rotating injector is newlineproposed for improving the engine performance. This is to be achieved newlinewithout requiring further modifications to either operating parameters or newlinegeometric configurations. There has been very limited study using the above newlinemethodology, that was achieved using an external mechanism. newlineIn this present work, the three-dimensional closed-cycle geometry newlineof a 661cc diesel engine was numerically modeled. The simulation was newlineconducted for static as well as rotating fuel injection having 3, 5, and 9-holes newlineby varying the rotational speed of 1500 and 2500 rpm respectively without newlinealtering the hole diameter and mass flow rate of fuel. newline
