Abstract: | This research work is the investigation of single basin passive solar desalination still performance with both sensible and latent heat energy storage medium. In this research, solar thermal energy is used as the energy source, and effort has been taken to reduce the energy loss in the solar still. The blue metal stones are used as an energy storage medium as well as an insulation layer which enables the reduction in bottom and side energy loss. Basically the energy storage medium absorbs heat energy from solar radiation during the day time and releases later. This in turns thereby will reduce the heat accumulated in the space between the water and the glass surface. The different sizes of blue metal stones are put on in the basin to improve the overall efficiency, yield, reduction in glass to water temperature difference, and total loss in the solar still. The outcome of the above-foresaid parameters is the part of the investigation. The investigation has been done with typical still and proposed solar still. The solar still that having brackish water as a medium is called typical solar still and the solar still that having brackish water with energy storage medium is called the proposed solar still. newlineIn the first set, the performance comparison has been carried out newline |
