Abstract: Retransmission avoidance is an essential need for any type of wireless communication. As retransmissions demand for the same data to be transmitted once again, there is a great possibility of unnecessary presence of redundant data in all the nodes within the transmission range. Also for the transmission to happen for the second time, similar amount of effort utilized for the first time in terms of memory, power, routing intelligence and link quality has to be applied. And hence retransmissions lead to wastage of innumerable resources within the network. To have less retransmission, first transmission attempt must be successful i.e., whatever the data the sender wishes to transmit must reach the receiver without any failure. The various reasons for the transmission failure include node failure, limited memory storage capability, packet loss, erroneous packet, acknowledgement timeout, network traffic etc. newlineMost of the reliable protocols use retransmission as a means to achieve reliability at a great cost. In this thesis, two of the crucial reasons for retransmission, the node failure and less storage capacity are addressed. The primary reason for the node failure is due to energy drain in the respective node which is in turn caused because of more energy consumption for doing various node operations. As storage capacity is directly proportional to the size of the memory, sensor nodes experienceless storage capacity due to theirrestricted size. When any node faces the above two problems, it cannot perform its operations in a right manner leading to transmission failures which in turn demand retransmissions. So there is a great need to apply special interest to the node s energy level and its memory capacity to be maintained at a good level for successful transmissions mainly to avoid retransmissions. newline
