Abstract: Providing safe water supply is a basic minimum need to improve newlinethe standard of living. Water is drawn from rivers, lakes, springs and newlineunderground wells to cater the need of the public. The treatment of water newlinevaries with respect to quality of raw water. If the source is surface, the unit newlineoperations include aeration, sedimentation with or without coagulation, newlineflocculation, filtration, disinfection and distribution. Water Treatment Sludge newline(WTS), an unavoidable by-product, occurs mostly in particulate or gelatinous newlineform, consisting of varying concentrations of microorganisms, organic, newlineinorganic and suspended matters, coagulants and its aids. Coagulants are used newlineto settle the solid particles in suspension, both organic and inorganic The newlinepotential use of WTS depends on chemical composition of the sludge which newlinevaries according to the quality of raw water and the treatment methodology. newlineIn the present study the water treatment plant sludge formed at Dharmapuri newlineDistrict in Tamilnadu under Hoggenakkal Water Supply and Fluoride Mitigation newlineProject (HWS and FMP) is used. The water treatment consists of coagulation newlineby lime and alum, flocculation at predetermined level, filtration, disinfection, newlineand distribution. The WTS is thickened at the sludge thickener and dried in newlinethe sludge drying beds. The safe disposal of accumulated WTS is an newlineimportant task for the water managers. In the present study, the objectives are; newlineand#61623;and#61472;and#61472; To study the physical and chemical composition of sludge newlineand analyze its suitability in the partial replacement of fine newlineaggregate. newlineand#61623;and#61472;and#61472; To evaluate the compressive strength of the cement mortars newlinewith 0 to 15 % replacement of sludge as fine aggregate and newlinecompare it with that of cement mortar without any newlinereplacement. newline
