Abstract: Magnesium and its alloys are re-emerging materials for automobile and aerospace industries newlinedue to its low density, high specific strength, good machinability, high damping capacity and newlinegood castability characteristics. Few limitations such as poor formality, high flammability or newlinereactivity, low stiffness, creep strength, corrosion resistance problem prevents their application. However, these limitations can be overcome by proper selection of alloying elements and by grain refinement. The presence of rare-earth (RE) helps to solve the corrosion problem and strengthen the grain boundary sliding. The presence of RE along with Zn increases the strength due to the LPSO structure. Zr helps to grain refinement which increases the strength of Mg alloy. newline newline newline
