Abstract: | Indigenous medicinal practices can provide valuable information for discovery of new and more effective drugs. Recently Ministry of AYUSH released an advisory regarding T. cordifolia and T. Crispa which emphasize the importance of T. cordifolia. Though it is an age old medicinal plant it is good to do a continuous research on the plant. This research entitled Investigation of enriched fractions of Tinospora cordifolia and exploring some pharmacological activities by using Caenorhabiditis elegans model has dealt with the Pharmacognostical, Phytochemical, Molecular docking and Pharmacological activities of Tinospora cordifolia with a newer animal model Caenorhabiditis elegans. The study concluded that Tinospora cordifolia is medicinally potent with various bioactive constituents and the Caenorhabiditis elegans model used in the study is an excellent alternative source for studying the pharmacological properties and the underlying mechanisms of phytoconstituents. The current findings meet the regulatory requirements of WHO guidelines for raw materials and ICH guidelines for the quantification and validation of selected phytoconstituents. The observation of the present study indicated that the T. cordifolia has a definite hypolipidemic and hence cardioprotective and anti-atherosclerotic potential. Hence, the present study helps to support the traditionally claimed anti-hyperlipidemic activity of T. cordifolia. So that Tinospora cordifolia can be considered as an important addition to the therapeutic armamentarium for the treatment of hyperlipidemia. T. Cordifolia also posses antioxidant activity and plays a role on ageing. There could be a possible inter relation between these effects at signal or molecular level. And C. elegans can be an excellent preliminary animal model when we have a small amount of sample particularly in case of trace of phytoconstituents present in crude drug. It will be a boon to new drug discovery research. |
