Abstract: In this era of globalization, to any country, it is virtuous to have a strong manufacturing sector. Hence it is important to move towards the growth of the manufacturing field instead of limiting the innovations just up to sustainability. So, for the constructive growth, the researchers shall concentrate the following criteria like improved quality, worthiness for the cost, environmental friendly practices etc., Those criteria can be achieved by the full-fledged, innovative research. Another prospective approach is knowledge sharing between experts, which expands the scope of the research in manufacturing segment. In machining process, the surface characteristics of the machined workpiece are the important measure of quality. The surface characteristics can be well achieved through the effective machining processes. Higher material removal rate reduces the machining time and hence the manufacturing time is reduced. The surface characteristics considered for this study are surface roughness and recast layer thickness. The recast layer is formed on the machined workpiece surface which is machined by wire electric discharge machining process. In general, the recast layer is detrimental in nature; because it may contain some micro cracks and those micro cracks may propagate into the base metal from the recast layer. In most of the cases, the surface roughness values and the thickness of the recast layer are expected to be as small as possible. In this work, the minimization of surface roughness and minimization of thickness of recast layer are carried out. Also the maximization of material removal rate is carried out, through this investigation.
