Abstract: | In India, pancreatitis is more common among the alcoholics. newlineBeing a developing nation, most of the affected families live in newlinepoverty line. There are many investigations which are required for newlinecalculating the above severity scoring systems which will increase newlinethe cost factor of the patient. In order to predict the severity of the newlinedisease earlier, a simple scoring system is needed which will enable newlineus to provide aggressive treatment for those progressing to severe newlinepancreatitis and to lower the morbidity and mortality. In Acute pancreatitis, Neutrophils are incorporated into the newlinepancreas due to the action of inflammatory cytokines. These newlineneutrophils propagate Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome newline(SIRS and the inflammatory cascade in Acute Pancreatitis whereas newlinelymphocyte depletion occurs in severe sepsis, and is associated with newlinea poor outcome. Neutrophils and lymphocytes reflect the immune newlineresponse better than the total WBC count. newlineThe neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR), calculated from the newlinewhite cell differential count, provides a rapid indication of the extent newlineof an inflammatory process. The aim of this study was to investigate newlinethe prognostic value of the NLR in acute pancreatitis (AP) and newlinedetermine an optimal ratio for severity prediction an d also a cost newlineeffective tool newline |
