dc.description.abstractnewline Kappaphycus alvarezii reject (KR) has been identified as newlinebiomass containing carbohydrates, which when discarded becomes an newlineunused resource. Solid Food Waste (SFW) though investigated as a newlinecarbohydrate enriched source for bioethanol production had limited newlineapplications as a liquid biofuel source owing to its heterogeneous nature newlineand complexity. Blending these two waste materials as a source for newlinebioethanol production is found complimenting and has been attempted newlinefor the first time in the present study. The aim of this study is to explore newlinethe possibilities for the production of bioethanol (BE) using KR and newlinewidely available SFW. For further examination, the samples were newlinedeveloped for the determination of total solids (58.35 wt.%), volatile newlinematter (0.77 wt.%), moisture content (9.63 wt.%), and ash content newline(31.25 wt.%). The reducing sugar (RS) concentration was determined by newlineblending KR and SFW in weight basis various amounts (9:1, 8:2, 7:3, newlineand 6:4). Using UV Spectroscopy, the impact of hydrolysis on the rise newlinein RS of the samples by adding 1 N, 1.5 N, 2 N, 2.5 N, 3 N, 3.5 N of newlineH2SO4, HCl, H3PO4, NaOH, and KOH at varied durations and newlinetemperatures was investigated. The optimal percentage rise in RS from newline16.80 mg/mL to 30.83 mg/mL was obtained after 3 hours of hydrolysis newlinewith 2.5 N phosphoric acid at 80°C.
