Title: A crosssectional study of factors influencing the occurrence of road traffic injuries in a tertiary care hospital

Abstract: In a country like India where the growth in economic condition and newlinetransportation is rapidly increasing peoples lifestyle and cultural practices is also newlinegetting changed. This change has got an impact over the health condition of each and newlineevery individual. When seeing the common causes of deaths, deaths due to road traffic newlineinjury gradually climbing up the ladder which will conquer the place of top seated newlinecardio and cerebro vascular accident. Hence studying about this important aspect in a newlinetertiary level care hospital is necessary in public health perspective.The study shows that 85.5% of the victims were male, with people from the newlinerural area were more commonly affected accounting for 70.1%.The particular age group newlinewhich is mostly in the accident is between 16 years to 45 years which was about newline78%.The education status of the victims revealed that most of the victims had education newlineup to senior secondary level and higher education. Mostly victims were unskilled and newlinesemiskilled and belonged to lower and lower middle class group. On seeing the various newlinerisk factors vehicular risk factors vehicle capacity of 100-200cc was mostly involved in newlinethe accident and those vehicles had gears and the contribution of vehicle defect was newlinearound 13.4%.Collision with motorized two wheeler was the most common finding newlineaccounting for 57%.Almost 80% of the victims were drunk at the time of investigation newlineand people with high speed has got involved in the accident. On looking into the usage newlineof protective gears around 65% of the victims didn t wear helmets at the time of newlineaccident. When studying the environmental factors 83.5% of the victims didn t have newlineadequate lighting on the road in the evening dusky times due to lack of street lights and newlinemost of the accident happened during weekends. The injury among the victims showed newlinethat head injury was common in 69% of the individuals and mostly victims sustained newlinesuperficial injuries. newline
