A study on knowledge management among self-financing engineering colleges in and around Chennai

Abstract

Knowledge Management involves enhancing organizational knowledge through sound practices of information management and organizational learning. Considerable evidence has emerged to show that what matters is not the ability to generate information but to assimilate it. Knowledge management deals with using information which creates value. With a mushroom growth of self-finance engineering colleges all over the country and their potential to transform the engineering education as such, it was deemed fit to focus on these colleges with regard to knowledge management practices. This study was confined to select engineering colleges in and around Chennai. The literature survey identified a number of variables and select relevant variables were chosen to formulate a well structured questionnaire. Both primary and secondary data were collected which were analyzed using select statistical tools. Before embarking on the main study, a pilot survey was carried out to ensure the suitability and relevance of the research instrument. The research instrument was further tested for its reliability using Cronbach method which proved its high reliability. The data were analyzed and interpretations were drawn. Findings and conclusions were based on the results of analysis and suitable suggestions were formulated. This study also presents directions for future research.
