Abstract: | Background: Nurses are the key member and play a major role in the health care settings and help to enhance organ donation. Poor knowledge and attitude of nurse towards organ donation may worsen the non availability of organ for transplantation. Knowledge, attitude and practice level of critical care nurses is very essential to take care of potential organ donors. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of educational module on organ donation on knowledge, attitude, practice of nurses and viable organ donation in intensive care and emergency units. Objectives of the study: 1. To assess and compare the pre test and post test level of knowledge, attitude and practice of nurses and viable organ donation in the experimental and control group. newline2. To evaluate the effectiveness of educational module on knowledge, attitude and practice of nurses and viable organ donation between experimental and control group. Materials and Methods: A true experimental study was adopted with a sample size of 286 staff nurses working in intensive care and emergency care unit at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and Government Kilpauk General Hospital, Chennai. Data was collected using a structured knowledge questionnaire, Likert scale and observation checklist and the experimental group received an educational module as interventional strategies and the control group followed their hospital routine care for viable organ donation. Results: The results reported that after administration of education module, the overall percentage of mean improvement score in the level of knowledge was 78.76%, 84.34% in the level of attitude and 85.73% in the level of practice. The study result proposes and research investigator recommends that the utilization of education module among nurses will help to promote the successful organ donation process. Conclusion: The study concluded that educational module is an effective interventional strategy in increase the knowledge, attitude and practice on viable organ donation. |
