Abstract: newline The rapid development of construction industry across the world has newlinebeen increasing the demand for the conventional construction materials. In newlineplain cement concrete, aggregate accounts for 66% to 78% of its volume. Fine newlineaggregate occupies 20% to 30% of the total volume of concrete. Natural sand, newlinewhich is dredged from river beds, has been commonly considered a fine newlineaggregate for making concrete. The extraction of sand from river beds causes newlinethe environmental issues which also creates ecological problems. In many newlinecountries, environmental legislation prevents dredging sand from river beds. In newlinean effort to conserve natural resources, it is necessary to explore alternate newlineconstruction materials and minimize the adverse effect on the environment. newlineThe abundant quantity of surplus material (25% to 45%) when coarse newlineaggregate is produced from hard rock quarries depending on the parent rock is newlinepossible to collect while crushing and screening process of coarse aggregate. newline
