The area under rice crop in our country is about 43.66 m ha with a production of newline118.87 m tonnes and productivity of 2.72 t ha-1 (USDA, 2020). Uttar Pradesh is the second newlinelargest rice growing state after West Bengal in the country. It is grown in area of about 5.75 newlinem ha with the production of 15.54 m tones and productivity of 2.70 t ha-1 (Agricultural newlineStatistics at a Glance, 2019). To meet the demand of increasing population and maintain self newlinesufficiency the present production level need to be increased up to 140 million tonnes by newline2025 under limited land availability this can be achieved only by increasing the rice newlineproduction by over 2 million tonnes year-1 in coming decade (The Hindu, 2005). newline | |
