Abstract

Nation and State newlineThe contemporary socio-politico-literary theory has been focused on defining newlineNation, Nationalism, State and Nation-State. Various ethical, political, historical newlineand anthropological issues that emerge with regard to Nation and Nationalism do newlineso based on the individual s definition of a Nation. A rudimentary definition of newlineNation that many scholars agree with is based on several working variables such newlineas a defined geographical territory, recognition of the self as part of a nation, newlinesome integration of communities within the defined geographical boundaries, newlineetc. These variables inevitably raise certain questions about association and newlineconsciousness. What makes somebody identify with a certain nation? Does newlinegeographical boundary restrict this recognition of someone s nation? Can a newlineperson belonging to a certain geographical location, be given a specific nation newlinebased on his geographical location, and yet identify with a different nation? newlineThese questions problematise this working definition of Nation in more than one newlineway.
