Abstract

Energy has always been one of the most imperative requirements for the economic development and wellbeing of human societies. Most of the energy used in the present scenario is obtained from fossil fuels. Because of extensive use of fossil fuels, global climate change signifies one of the greatest security risks for the world, in terms of environmental, social, and economic fronts. The widespread use of natural energy resources today has raised two major issues viz. issue of energy security and problem of environmental protection. Therefore because of limited availability of natural energy resources, innovation and expansion of renewable sources of energy has become essential for maintaining a sustainable level of energy and protect our planet from climate change. The use of biofuel is emerging as a vital part of the renewable energy resources. newline newlineBiofuels are gaseous or liquid transportation or heating fuels derived from biomass such as grains, sugar crops, cellulosic materials, starch, and organic waste biofuels include bioethanol and biodiesel, bioethanol is produced by fermentation of sugar from plants, such as sugarcane, or from starch crops, such as corn, whereas biodiesel is made from vegetable oils or animal fats through a transesterification process. Producing advanced biofuels made from biomass and non-food feed stocks, such as municipal waste, algae, perennial grasses, and wood chips is one of the key research areas pertaining to utilization of renewable energy resources. newline newline
