Abstract: | The most popular means of multimedia data transmission in today s internet world newlineare the IEEE 802.11Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). They have seen progressive newlinedevelopment in the last two decades by introducing several new Physical (PHY) newlineaspects. Consequently, the user requirements are also changing dynamically with the newlineincrease in multimedia traffic demands. Despite the advancements in the PHY layer, newlinethe actual data rate perceived by the end-user is relatively low. Since the WLANs still newlinedepend on conventional Medium Access Control (MAC), supporting Quality of Service/ newlineQuality of Experience (QoS/QoE) to various multimedia traffic users is a major newlinechallenge. Proper allocation of resources and scheduling play a major role in providing newlinerequired QoS to the users. newlineAt first, this thesis presents a brief review of QoS/QoE based resource allocation and newlinescheduling algorithms over WLANs in connection with MAC and higher layers. The newlineobjective of this survey is to provide an overview of IEEE 802.11 WLANs and discuss newlinevarious aspects of radio resource management that can be used to facilitate the provision newlineof QoS/QoE in the upcoming WLANs. Generally, the process of user scheduling newlineis performed with the acquisition of Channel State Information (CSI) from the user stations. newline |
