Abstract: Among various abiotic stresses, heat stress is one of the most damaging, threatening plant productivity and survival all over the world. Heat stress affects overall plant metabolism in terms of physiology, biochemistry, and gene expression. In response to heat stress, plants produce compounds of low molecular mass, which might have roles in protection, commonly known as thermo-protectants. Testing such molecules for their effectiveness in imparting heat tolerance to two Mungbean genotypes i.e. SML 832 (HS) and EC693358 (HT) constitutes the primary objective of the present study. PGRs such as salicylic acid (SA) and sodium nitro-prusside (SNP), showed some promising results in overcoming harmful effects of heat stress under realistic field environment by improving yield, photosynthetic efficiency, carbohydrate metabolism, enzymatic activity and content of osmolytes. newline
