dc.description.abstract | In these days of explosive population growth and advanced technology, considerable emphasis is being laid on educating a citizen to maintain optimum level of fitness for personal efficiency and national progress all over the world. The present day is an age of automation, sophistication and technology wonders beyond man s wildest dreams of a few years ago. In spite of all the powerful and even increasing efforts on the part of medical science in recent years, to make man aware of the fact that preventive maintenance of his body and especially of his heart, is the only way to assure a long and healthy life of modern man has been observed. newlineSports and games as a part of physical education perhaps may be viewed as that aspect of human activity which essentially strengthens the integration of body and mind. Recently, it is felt that apart from the purposeful use of physical activities and games as a measure of maintenance of general health, happiness and fitness for effective and efficient living, there are many psychological, sociological and personal factors that develop among participants rather it develops total personality. Scientific investigations, minute observations and experience by coaches, physical education teachers, and sports-oriented person in the allied fields have brought to light a variety of psychological, physiological, sociological and other factors which are found to be the outcome of participation in physical activities among sports persons. It could also be deduced from available and recorded literature that sports activities has a significant effect doing away with a sportsman s sublimating anti-social tendencies and inferiority complexes and developing healthy attitudes, personality adjustment and other personal characteristics. newline newline | |
