Abstract: It is very set principle existing all over the world that the domestic work holds up the attribution of informality. This image is also maintained in the country as domestic work is defined as work with unsuitable working conditions which includes long and unregulated working hours, job insecurity as well as lack of social security, low status, decent working conditions, social protection, absence of minimum wages, rest periods and adequate leave periods, other work benefits and even removal without any prior notice or compensation, and gendered determined task which is performed by the workers behind the closed doors i.e. households of the employers. The nature of informality of domestic work is aggravated because of verbal form of contract regarding employment, existence of personalized recruiting channels, individualized hiring process and terms and conditions of the work contracts as well as complete absence of involvement of any agency, concerned authorities or State. Due to existence of certain factors, leaves the sector with no other option available for regulation and functions as per the choice of its players i.e. the employers. These things make the sector highly vulnerable and take the domestic workers at the verge of vulnerability. There is no regulation which regulates the employer- employee relationship. Therefore, the workers face undesired nature of their employers. The research study is comprised of seven chapters and an empirical study was carried out by the researcher. Under this, the researcher has analyzed the topic on various aspects relating to the prevailing situation of domestic workers and for this an empirical research was conducted in some areas of Delhi. The researcher has critically examined the factors responsible for the increase in domestic workers market inspite of being an unorganized nature of work, challenges faced by them during the course of employment, the provisions dealing with them under national laws as well as the protection of them at international platform....
