Abstract: The present investigation was carried out at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and ICAR- National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, Odisha from 2015-2021 with the following objectives (i) Variability assessment and genetic dissection of rice root traits using molecular markers, (ii) To identify the drought tolerant parameters/trait(s) for the improvement of drought tolerance in rice, (iii) To estimate the nature and magnitude of gene effects for yield and drought tolerant attributes, (iv) To find out the promising crosses for drought tolerance, yield and its component traits based on combining ability and heterosis (v) Isolation of promising high yielding drought tolerant recombinants through conventional and molecular approaches. newline
