dc.description.abstract | Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of the most important cereal crops in the world, being cultivated in different agro-ecosystems. It is a staple food of more than half of the world s population and supplies 20% calories demand worldwide and 31% of domestic. It plays a pivotal role in maintaining food security since one of the major challenges confronting world agriculture is to feed the rising population, which is expected to grow above nine billion people by 2050 (Dhillon et al., 2018). In India, 23.3% of gross cropped area is engaged by rice, which contributes to 43% of total food grain production and 46% of total cereal production of the country. It is grown in area of about 5.75 m ha with the production of 15.54 m tones and productivity of 2.70 t ha-1 (Agricultural Statistics at a Glance, 2019). newline | |
