Abstract: The development of a low-cost strategy to increase the solar energy conversion efficiency is a vital part of our search to find renewable and sustainable energy sources. Synthesis of ZnO, ZnO-ZnS, ZnO-ZnSe, ZnO-ZnTe and SnO2-SnS2 heterostructures was carried out for the application in solar energy conversion. The mechanism of the photodetection and photodegradation of organic pollutants was investigated to elucidate the enhanced efficiency of the synthesized heterostructures. newline
