Abstract: | The root of Resistance Literature lies in the lives of those social groups who have been marginalised generation together. Subjugated and segregated by the centre (the ruling class), the Dalits continue to remain voiceless. Their dependence on the higher castes has made them meek, week, passive and docile. The objective of this research work is to highlight the specific dimensions of Resistance literature with particular emphasis on the selected novels of Mulk Raj Anand and Gopinath Mohanty. The present study is an endeavour to critically examine the select works of Gopinath Mohanty and Mulk Raj Anand in the context of dalit representation and subalternity in socio-economic domain. Though the characters are victim of society, still they never loose hope. They dream of their bright future which is a major trend of Resistance literature. They offer resistance to hierairchical centers of power against caste and class oppression thus breaking down the age-old barriers of silence. newlineThis research work has six chapters and each chapter will illustrate the very notion of Resistance Literature. Chapter I is an Introduction. Chapter II providse a useful insight into the various aspects of Resistance literature. This will give a definition of the theory of Resistance and its various approaches in academia. Before doing so, there will be a thorough discussion on the socio-cultural background of Dalits and the situations that led to the emergence of Dalit literature. This will enable to understand the conditions in which marginal writings had its inception. This chapter will also give a preliminary idea about the wide gap between the perspectives of Dalit aesthetics and mainstream aesthetics.
