Abstract: Sentencing is that phase of criminal justice system where the real punishment of the convict is handed out by the judge in the aftermath of the stage of conviction. The proclamation of sentence is a major objective of the criminal justice system. India does not have a pronounced sentencing policy or structured guidelines propounded by the legislature or by the judiciary. Insofar as sentencing an erring corporate body is concerned there is further hollowness in the system.
