Sleep disturbance is a common complaint we encounter in our daily clinical newlinepractice. Analysing the various types of sleep disturbances gives an overview about the newlinesleep pattern in an individual. Sleep disorders play an important role in patients newlinesuffering from chronic diseases as they contribute to both disease progression and newlineimpaired quality of life. Though there has been numerous studies and publications both newlinein clinical medicine and basic research, the diagnosis of sleep disorders remains newlineunderdiagnosed. The sleep pattern / disturbances can be assessed either by newlinequestionnaire, sleep diary, and polysomnogram (PSG). newlineHere, with the aid of sleep disorder questionnaire, the prevalence in common newlinedisease like - diabetes mellitus, hypertension, thyroid disorders-hypothyroid, newlinehyperthyroid, chronic kidney disease, connective tissue disorders (rheumatoid arthritis) newlinewere assessed. newlineNot all can undergo a polysomnogram in their first visit so hence this newlinequestionnaire gives a clue to identify those who require further evaluation and the need newlinefor referral to a sleep specialist. newlineIn the present study, the mean age group was 47.74. Among the gender 59% newlinewere female and 41% were male. When the baseline variables were analysed it was newlinefound that patients aged 51-60 years has more disturbances compared to the other age newlinegroup. Similarly, when the gender was analysed it was found that female had more newlinesleep disturbances than male. When sleep disturbances were assessed with help of the newlinequestionnaire it was found that the prevalence of sleep disturbances was found to be newlinehigher in chronic kidney disease patients, and thyroid having less sleep disturbances newlinecompared to the other diseases. Among the study population, out of the 6 major sleep newlinedisorders, most of them had insomnia. The results were obtained from statistical newlineanalysis and was found to be significant. newline
