Food is a basic necessity of life, and its significant part is obtained through crops. To maintain the sufficiency of food for the increasing population, it is quintessential to increase the production of crops. After the 1970s, the biotechnologists tend to bring gene revolution in agriculture. They have developed Genetically Modified (hereinafter referred to as GM) crops to achieve some beneficial characteristics, such as herbicide resistance, pest resistance, disease resistance, cold/frost tolerance, drought tolerance, salinity tolerance, long shell ripening and improved nutrition etc. To genetically modify a crop plant, they insert or copy a specific foreign gene taken from a different organism, such as any other plant, bacteria, fungi or insect, etc. newline
