Hollow steel section members filled with concrete have been newlinefrequently used in recent construction industry as columns beams and beamcolumns newlinebecause of their superior performance and constructability This type newlineof composite section may be used in various structures including frames of newlinehigh rise buildings bridges offshore structures cast in situ pile foundation newlineetc A hollow steel section in filled with concrete is a new idea for beams that newlineare suitable as replacement for hot rolled steel or reinforced cement concrete newlinein small to medium sized building Moreover concrete filled composite newlinemembers do not require temporary formwork for in filled concrete as the steel newlineacts as formwork in the construction stage and as reinforcement in the service newlinestage They are simple to fabricate and construct compared to conventional newlinereinforced concrete where skilled workers are needed to cut and bend newlinecomplex forms of reinforcement The infill concrete is less likely to be newlineaffected by adverse temperature experienced in the case of reinforced newlineconcrete The in fill concrete is generally cured quickly newlineExtensive investigations on the behaviour of cold formed steel newlinetubular section columns in filled with concrete of varying strength were newlinecarried out by many researchers Based on these findings many international newlinecodes of practices were formed to incorporate the design guidelines for these newlinetypes of members newlineen_US
