Abstract: | Child protection is the basic right of every child. Child care institutions have been set up to provide a safe environment for children who are vulnerable in an institutional setting under the guidance and supervision of caretakers and professionals and cater to their basic needs like health, education, social integration, and skill training as prescribed by the law. The National Policy for Children restates India s commitment to children in the Child Care Institutions (CCIs) in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. newlineThis research investigated the self-efficacy and quality of life among children residing at Child Care Institutions (CCIs). Interviews and discussions with the caretakers and children in these homes were done and the results were analyzed. The study also proposed to identify the factors that would improve the quality of life of the children in the CCIs. The intention was to get a clear picture of the existing social and physical infrastructure of these institutions. To make them places of care and nurture, where children can grow to become happy and contributing members of society. newlineIt is clearly known from the previous researches that there were many studies done on orphan children in the world. It covered different variables like mental health, the support provided to orphan children, welfare systems, educational difficulties, academic performance, and their psychological adjustment. From the literature survey, it is clearly seen that only a few studies have been done on orphan children in India. In Tamil Nadu, most of the research was of comparative nature. The investigator did not come across any study giving a comprehensive view of the quality of life of the orphans, their psychological and social wellbeing. Hence the investigator felt that such a study would reveal important facts about this otherwise neglected group. The aim of the research is to study the self- efficacy and quality of life among children residing at child care institutions (CCIs) in the west region.... |
