Abstract: | Wole Soyinka, the first and the only Nobel laureate from Nigeria till date, was born into a Yoruba family at Abeokuta in the year 1934. His father was an Anglican minister. This provided Soyinka with an access to both Yoruba culture and rituals on one hand and Christian theology on the other. Badal Sircar, awarded the Padma Shri in 1972, was born in Calcutta in a Christian family nine years before Soyinka in the year 1925 newline |
