dc.description.abstract | Volleyball is a dynamic and fast-paced game. To play volleyball one has to be newlinegood at vertical jump, known as explosive power. The players need to newlineparticipate in frequent short bouts of high-intensity exercise, followed by periods newlineof low intensity activity. volleyball players require well developed speed, agility, newlineupper-body and lower body muscular power, and maximal aerobic power. newlineAlthough, many scientific training programmes are being practiced and newlineimplemented, recently importance of pilate exercises are given importance in newlinethe training schedule for success in volleyball. It is interesting to note that today newlinerole of yoga practices in achieving top performance in sports is well newlinedocumented. However, despite yoga s wide popularity, the randomized newlinecontrolled study in association with Pilates exercise in this direction is meager. newlineHence, looking at the potential benefits of yoga and Pilates exercise, the newlinepresent study was conducted to find out the effect of yoga and pilates exercise newlineon strength and performance in elite volleyball players. newlineOne hundred and twenty male players of Volleyball (n=120), aged 16 to 18 newlineyears, were pooled for this controlled experiment by employing Fishers random newlinetable sampling technique. Making the use of table random numbers all the 120 newlinesubjects were divided randomly into four groups viz., Group A (Pilates newlineExercise Group); Group-B (Yoga Group), Group-C (Pilates exercise plus yoga newlineGroup) and Group-D (Control Group). Thus, each group consisted of 30 newlinesubjects. Group-A: This group underwent a training program on selected Pilates newlineexercises followed by volleyball practice and participated in regular activity as newlineper the school time schedule. The training in selected Pilates exercise was newlineimplemented by a professionally qualified expert. Group-B: This is yoga group. newlineThe subjects of this group received a training program on selected Yoga newlinepractices followed by volleyball practice and also participated in regular activity newlineas per the school time schedule. | |
