Abstract

Diabetic macular edema (DME) is the most prevalent cause of loss of vision in diabetic patients and is a major public health problem. The conventional treatment modalities only partially address the complex and multifactorial pathogenesis of DME, and they also have several therapeutic limitations. The burden of diabetes and its complications on the health care system is increasing day by day and mandates efforts to treat them more optimally.
