Abstract: The present study discuses concepts that help in undertaking an interdisciplinary newlinestudy of the ecological, institutional, and technological dimension of newlinewater resource management in context of Varanasi. The focus of the study is to newlineelaborate urban planning in British India and Britons establishment in Benares. This newlinethesis try to look in to the role of British Urban Planning and colonial policies which newlineis one of the reason for the present water crisis going in and around the city. Apart newlinefrom that, I clearly discuss about the scarcity of water in Varanasi city, groundwater newlinecrisis, and destruction of traditional water resources like ponds, kupas, rivers, and newlinenalas. The present study mention about the evolution of physical and cultural newlinelandscape of Varanasi as well as historical evolution of the city. newline
