Effect of Pre and Post harvest Applications of Salicylic Acid and Propyl Gallate on Quality and Shelf Life of Ber Ziziphus mauritiana Lamk Fruits cv Banarasi Karaka

Abstract

Ber (Ziziphus mauritiana Lamk.) is also known as Chinese date, Indian plum, Regi pandu, Indian jujube and Masau. It is an ancient and common fruit of tropical and sub-tropical parts of India and belong to the family Rhamnaceae. Nearly 52,000 hectares, area is under cultivation of Ber which lies mostly in north Indian plains, central India and Peno-suliar India. The total production of ber fruits has been estimated to be 639,000 MT with the is 639,000 MT and the productivity of 12.28 MT/ha, (NHB, 2018- 2019). It is a very hardy fruit tree and performs well under adverse climatic and soil conditions. Deep sandy to sandy loams are best suited for its cultivation. newline
