Abstract: Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of 2% Lignocaine as a local anesthetic newlineagent on pain perception and depth of anesthesia for dental treatment under newlinegeneral anesthesia. newline9 newlineMaterials and Method: The present study is a double blinded randomized, newlineparallel-design clinical study conducted in 54 children (25 females and 29 newlinemales) between the age group of 3 and 6 years of age requiring full mouth newlinerehabilitation under general anesthesia. In group 1 (n=27) No local anesthetic newlineagents were given during the entire length of the procedure and in group 2 newline(n=27) all procedures were performed with the administration of local newlineanesthetic during the period of the general anesthetic. Postoperative pain newlinewas recorded immediately and after 2 hours using FLACC and Wong Baker newlinepain rating scales. Independent t test and Mann Whitney U test was newlineperformed. newlineResults: Vital signs were seen for each procedure performed for every newlinequadrant (quadrant 1: upper right, quadrant 2: upper left, quadrant 3: lower newlineleft, quadrant 4: lower right). Statistically significant results were seen in newlineetCO2 values after procedure in quadrant 1 (p=0.044) for restorations. For newlinepulp therapy results were significant after procedure for heart rate in quadrant newline2 (p=0.007) and 4 (0.049), diastolic BP in quadrant 3 (p=0.025), etCO2 in newlinequadrant 1 (p=0.001), quadrant 2 (p=0.000), quadrant 3 (p=0.000), quadrant 4 newline(p=0.005). Pulp therapy was followed by placement of crowns. The values newlineafter procedure for heart rate quadrant 2 (p=0.016), quadrant 3 (p=0.000), newlinequadrant 4 (p=0.036), diastolic BP in quadrant 3 (p=0.036), etCO2 in quadrant newline10 newline1 (p=0.004), quadrant 2 (p=0.000), quadrant 3 (p=0.000), quadrant 4 (p=0.000) newlinewere significant. Significant values were seen after the procedure for systolic newlineBP in quadrant 4 (p=0.051) for extraction. On evaluating the PRST scores newlinebefore and after the surgical procedure there was no significant change seen newlinein the depth of anesthesia. FLACC scores showed no statistical significance newlineseen among the two groups before, immediately and 2 hours after
