Abstract: This thesis maps the territorial and cultural representation of Punjab in cinema, through cinematographic frames. The study hinges on deep analyses of the politics and aesthetics of cinematic representations. Ideological leanings, commercial pressures, and their manifestation in the form, style, and world-building around Punjab are taken into account. The arguments and investigation focus on the imagining and re-imagining of Punjab through multiple modes of filmmaking. The nature of the enquiry necessitated methodologies drawn from film and cultural studies.
