Abstract: | Keeping above facts in view, the present study entitled. Impact of Hybrid Rice Technology on socio-economic status of Farmers in Eastern Zone of Uttar Pradesh was under taken with the following objectives, (i) to study the socio-economic status of hybrid rice growers, (ii) to find out the determinants for adoption of hybrid rice technology among farmers., (iii) to assess the economics of hybrid and HYV rice ; (iv) to assess the technical and social impact of hybrid rice technology and (v) to explore the constraints faced by the farmers in adoption of hybrid rice technology and suggest the remedial measures to overcome the constraints related to development of hybrid rice in Uttar Pradesh. The study was conducted in district Ambedkar nagar and Sultanpur. Four blocks were randomly selected from both districts. Thereafter, twenty villages, five from each block were selected on random basis. 50 hybrid rice growers and 50 HYV rice growers were included as respondents from each district. The dependent and independent variables taken up for the study include age, education, caste, family structure, occupation, size of land holdings, annual income, sustainability, profitability, technological gap and constraints. The data were analysed using simple statistical techniques like classification, percentage, average, mean score, ranking and Garrett s ranking. The findings revealed that hybrid rice agro-ecologically adopted and has been accepted by the growers on socio-economic and bio-physical parameters. Hybrid rice has proven its better than HYV rice except canal irrigated area/mostly irrigated area/rainy area with additional productivity gains of 1.47 tonne/ha. and gross income of Rs. 15437.37/ha.
