Utilization of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) in Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) has newlinevarious proven benefits including such as reuse of high quality materials, saving of nonrenewable newlineaggregate resources and reduction in road construction costs etc. However, newlineup to 30% of RAP material has been successfully used in recycling till now. Various newlinechallenges are confronted while introducing RAP in HMA, especially in large newlinequantities. The characteristics of the RAP, particularly the aged (stiffer) asphalt binder newlinein the recycled material influence the performance of the mix. Many studies have newlineestablished that higher percentage of RAP can be used by adding rejuvenators or softer newlinebinder, which are believed to revive the characteristics of the aged binder. Various types newlineof bio oils such as vegetable oil, tall oil, cotton seed oil, soybean oil etc. and waste oils newlinesuch as waste engine oil and waste cooking oil etc. have been tried as rejuvenators. In newlinethis investigation, three non-edible oils locally available in eastern India, i.e. Mahua oil newline(Biological name: Madhuca Longifolia), Pongamia oil (biological name: Pongamia newlinePinnata) and Polanga oil (biological name: Calophyllum inophyllum) have been newlineexplored as potential rejuvenators. RAP was obtained from a local road rehabilitation newlineproject. Laboratory investigations were conducted for rheological, chemical and newlinethermal characterization of a RAP binder rejuvenated with varying dosages of the oils. newlineThe rheological characterizations in terms of viscosity, flow, amplitude sweep, newlinefrequency sweep, temperature sweep/rutting resistance factor, fatigue resistance factor, newlinemultiple stress creep and recovery, and linear amplitude sweep of rejuvenated RAP newlinebinders were carried out using a dynamic shear rheometer (DSR).Thermogravimetric newlineanalysis (TGA) was conducted for deciding the thermal analysis and Fourier Transform newlineInfrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) was used for chemical analysis of the rejuvenated RAP binder.
